My name is Matt, I’m 36 years old & after 6 years in Southern California - I’ve happily relocated to Denver, Colorado enjoying elevation and one of the most beautiful places in the country.
I know you can't see it right now, but I'm wearing a continuous glucose meter to regulate my blood sugars. I have a little device that feeds me insulin every day to keep me alive and operating. I’m my own healthcare team, this is my responsibility each and every day, like millions of others living with Diabetes.
The amount of sugar in your blood can be translated into a number for us to use every day. Over time, the human brain learns to understand this numbers importance, thus building a routine is key. This allows for me to wear a small sensor on my arm - my Dexcom - which feeds continuous glucose updates to my phone.
That number means everything to me. It determines my day, my mood, and how I go about carrying myself and sometimes - I can’t control it.
I didn't know it at the time, but in 2002 Type 1 Diabetes steered my life in the right direction and I've learned a tremendous amount because of it.
After living in New York City for almost four years, I was not feeling like the man I worked so hard to become.
After moving from New York City to Los Angeles in 2014 - and now to San Diego, the last 5 years have been the most positive and productive of my life.
I had to first change my mind about changing my life - THEN take action. My ever growing knowledge of nutrition, exercise, and meal planning have helped shape my diet thus transforming my goals.
I was working in digital advertising as an Ad Operations Specialist at Snap, Inc. in Venice Beach when they went public. Before that I was an Ad Operations Manager at GroupM. Essentially - I made sure the ads you saw online had the right specs, were shown to the right people, and worked correctly. I managed trafficking, reporting, and set expectations for massive brands and their marketing teams.
Handling quality assurance for all forms of media throughout my whole career has been a natural but challenging role. I grew up around emerging technology, witnessed how it created "mainstream" media, and then worked in a dedicated forward-thinking sector pushing the next big thing.
In my free time, I enjoy snowboarding more than anything and moving to California five years ago brought me to all new mountains. Most importantly - west coast snow! However, I do love going to the beach with my dog, hiking, biking and capturing everything in-between with a camera.
Most of all, I enjoy being myself.
You should too, no one else can do it for you.
Matt
